Golp's stray puppy found its way to the Niffens world and went on a sniffing and tinkling rampage. Golp followed him, and hitting him on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper, shooed his puppy away from his destructive mayhem.

The Niffens praised Golp as their savior and begged him to stay and lead them. Since the IRS was after him, he decided to forego his home life and live among the Niffens as a revered figure.

The Niffen's are pieces of people's imaginations. So...these Niffen's are somehow part of Uncle Golp's imagination. Or I am thinking something with computers...they are a highly evolved computer program.

The Niffins tried to save Uncle themselves by sending The fellowship of the donut ring out to get help from Saucer-mon, but that was many months ago, so now they need Golp to find out what is going on as its too dangerous for the niffins (sending a cow to the slaughter)(<- im refering to Golp)
