THE QUESTIONS FOR YOU:
Okay, Story Builders and Gorkamaniacs. This is Post#8 and I'd like to have a solid ending at post#10. This way I can collect these into an ashcan issue for the conventions. Just keep that in mind when sending comments. We can have some loose ends but we should get Gork back with the Niffens somehow.

At the risk of getting booted off the boards, (I often get in trouble when I point out the truth), and/or incurring the wrath of other readers, here goes:

If you keep setting goals and directions, then the comic isn't really controlled by the readers, is it? This is an interesting experiment you've set up, but you're not really giving the readers the freedom you promise at the very top of the page: "The comment based webcomic created by Mark Mariano and controlled by YOU!" What you've actually done is created a comic from which you troll ideas by exploiting the readers - which is interesting enough on it's own, but why not call it what it is? "The comment-based webcomic created by Mark Mariano and driven by the majority, or unique ideas that I like, of fans like YOU that fit into the predetermined story structure I have created."? Too wordy?
The moof's cheeks bulge and gork looks at him while being throttle, Suddenly he lets out a mighty belch and the octos (in shock) throw gork into the air. Then something else happens but i'll leave that to someone else.
Thank you DARK FERRET for your honesty. This is one the most important comments I've received. You have some very good points.
I shouldn't set any goals or direction. For the next posts I will simply ask "What happens next?"
You say I should describe the comic as: "The comment-based webcomic created by Mark Mariano and driven by the majority, or unique ideas that I like, of fans like YOU that fit into the predetermined story structure I have created." --That's pretty much how I sum it up in the sidebar below Gork's pic, EXCEPT FOR THE PRE-DETERMINED STORY STRUCTURE.
I do NOT have a predetermined story structure. Gork Gakk started out with ONE idea by me. Gork receiving a box. The rest has been influenced by the readers. I agree with you that saying the readers "control" the story is a false promise. In the end I do select the comment or comments to use, but the readers DO BUILD the story. They created the Niffens, Uncle Golp, Jam Gator, The Jelly Pool, and the Octomonsters. The readers decided to keep Gork in this fantasy land and to have Moofus only say "moof." Yes I control the story but the readers BUILD it. I will change the wording at the top of the page.
As far as exploiting the readers for their ideas... This comic is done strictly for fun. I do plan on printing the comic but selling it either at cost or with all profits going to a charity. This site and comic is meant to be fun for all, inspire creativity, and get people excited to see if their comment helped build the story.
Your comment, DARK FERRET, has helped a lot. Thank you and I encourage you to leave more.
So what should happen to Gork? :)
I agree Mark! But I don't think you should just say "What happens next?"
You have to set goals and directions otherwise this thing would be all over the place. When I give my students a lesson (I'm a teacher) I don't just give them a piece of paper without instructions and say "have at it". You have to give them objectives that meet toward the ultimate goal. Mark's goal is to have a comic that is fan DIRECTED...not CREATED. And it even says that on top: "The comment based webcomic created by Mark Mariano and controlled by YOU!"
Plus....refer to my last comment on the other Gork comic of what to do next :) (same creature who turned Golp into Moof, changed them).
they crystalize him in a cocoon and keep him there for three years.
He should pull a magic escape rope from his back pocket, and throw it into the air, with some goofy catchphrase =D!
Going along with what Anonymous said (on July 22), Gork should TOTALLY go all Indiana Jones and break out a whip and swing and/or run to safety while the octomonsters run after him (kinda like Indy and the boulder in The Raiders of the Lost Ark...) then have him swing over the Jelly Pool back to the Niffens.
:)
